Vegetable, Comfrey and Garlic Production on Ghinni Ghi Farm
Carol and Mark’s passion for developing the best possible soils in all areas of the farm has improved the health of the cattle and the produce we eat and sell.
We are amazed at the benefits of our own home-made “Comfrey Tea Fertiliser” which is applied to the crops approximately every four weeks. The nutrients in Comfrey encourage healthy green plants with strong root systems and very productive fruiting. Plants are resistant to disease and insect attack. After each harvest green manure crops are grown to improve soil structure and add humus to the soil.
Sunflowers are grown adjacent to the vegetables – for their beauty, as cut flowers, to assist in pollination and occasionally as a green manure crop.
We harvested our 2018 crops of “Italian Pink” and “Glen Large” garlic in early October 2018 (after planting the seed in April). Our “Russian” garlic has been harvested in December after an April planting. The bulbs are particularly large and healthy looking and should store well.
